Goritsy

Goritsy is a small settlement not far from the Kiritlo-Belozersky Monastery. The men's Monastery is situated in the North of Russia. It was founded in 1397 by Kiril Belozersky on the shore of Lake Siverskoye. Now it is in the territory of the modern town of Kirilov.

The monastery had wide trade in 15th -17th centuries. It sold salt and fish.

At the beginning of 17th century Kirilo-Belozersky Monastery survived the siege and beat off the attacks of the Polish and Lithuanian invaders.

The set of Kirilo-Belozersky monasteries includes the Uspensky and Ivanovsky monasteries "The Old Town" and "The New Town" and the territory of the fortress-prison between them which unfortunately hasn't been preserved for today. The monastery is surrounded by the fortress walls.
