Sergiev Posad

Sergiev Posad is one of the oldest seats of the Russian Orthodox Church and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the country.

The historic town of Sergiev Posad lies just 70 km north of Moscow. Home to the stunningly-beautiful Trinity-Sergiev Lavra (Monastery of St. Sergiy). The Monastery was a formidable fortress in the 16th Century and today is a working Monastery and clerical school. The crowning glory of its celebrated architecture is the five-domed Assumption Cathedral, considered by many to be the most beautiful in Russia.
