Vladimir

Vladimir is over one thousand years old, 180 km east of Moscow. It bears the name of its early 12th century founder Prince Vladimir Monomach. There are a number of superb historic churches, the white-stone Assumption Cathedral and most notable St. Dmitry Cathedral, which is the only surviving building of the late 12th century. It features a profusion of detailed stone carvings of mythological and hunting scenes on its exterior.
